Toyota Camry Key Replacement in San Diego

A Camry smart key runs $249 in your driveway, close to half the usual Toyota dealer figure of $500. Older Camry chip keys start at $129, cut and programmed on site.

Since the late 1990s the Camry has used a chip key, a remote head key, a smart key and, on newer turn-key trims, a laser-cut key. Which one you need depends on the year and, in most generations, the trim.

Every Camry key we sell is the same chip type Toyota specifies, programmed with the same procedure a dealer uses, and guaranteed for a year. The price includes the cutting, the programming and the drive anywhere in San Diego County. For a Camry built before 1998, text us the VIN for a quote on the right key.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
1998 to 2006: Transponder chip keyA plain metal key, chip hidden in the head. Roughly 1998 to 2003 cars take the older 4C chip and about 2004 to 2006 cars the 4D67 dot chip; both are cut and programmed at the car. $250 $129 $121
2007 to 2011: Transponder chip keyThe 4D67 dot chip through about 2009, then the G chip, so read us the stamp. Many have lock buttons on the head, the $169 remote head key. Metal copied without the chip opens the door and never starts the engine. $250 $129 $121
2012 to 2017: Smart key for push-to-start (Mostly the XLE and other upper trims (XSE from 2015); L and LE cars usually kept a blade key)Push-button start, offered on some 2007 to 2011 upper trims, spread further here. The fob carries an emergency blade we cut as well. Turn-key cars use a G, later H, chip key, and the version with remote buttons is $169. $500 $249 $251
2018 to 2026: Smart key for push-to-start (Most trims; turn-key base cars take the laser-cut key instead)Most trims now use a start button, and the few turn-key cars take the $149 laser-cut key. We check the VIN on the redesigned 2025 and newer Camry before quoting. $500 $249 $251

Lost every Camry key?

With every Camry key lost, the code for the blade comes off the VIN, the cutter in the van shapes it, and the immobilizer and fob get programmed where the car sits. Many newer Camrys also hold the reset behind a security timer, roughly 16 minutes, which lengthens the visit.

You pay $60 over the spare price: $189 for a 1998 to 2011 chip key, $309 for a push-button Camry, with no tow.

Toyota Camry key questions

How much is a replacement key for a Toyota Camry?

A Camry chip key for 1998 to 2011 cars is $129 at your car. A smart key for a push-button Camry is $249. Both prices cover cutting, programming and our trip out to you. A San Diego Toyota dealer typically quotes $250 for the chip key and $500 for the smart key before tax, plus a tow if no key works.

Does my Camry have a smart key or a blade key?

Look at the dash. A round start button instead of a key slot means a smart key, which Toyota offered on some upper trims from 2007 and made standard on most trims in 2018. A key slot means a turn key with a chipped head. If you are not sure, text us the year and trim for the price of the right one.

Can you make a Camry key with no key at all?

Yes, at the car. The VIN tells us how to cut the blade, the van cuts it, and the new key is registered before we leave. Bring proof of ownership, the registration or title, with ID in the same name. On many newer smart key Camrys the immobilizer makes us wait roughly 16 minutes before it accepts a new key, which adds time but not money.

Will a used Camry smart key from a wrecking yard work on my car?

Usually not. A Toyota smart key already registered to another car rarely pairs with yours, so a used fob tends to waste the money spent on it. A new fob from us is $249 with programming included, and a fob you bought new online can be programmed for $79 to $119 if it matches your car.

My Camry remote stopped locking the doors but the car still starts. Is the key finished?

Usually not. A car that still starts has a healthy chip, and a remote that stops locking usually has a flat battery. Camry smart keys take a flat coin cell, named in the owner's manual, which you can change yourself in a minute. Should the new cell not fix it, we re-pair the remote for $79 to $119 rather than sell you a new key.
