Keys for Used Cars That Came In With One Key or None

We come to your lot and make keys for cars that arrived with one key or none, cut from the VIN and programmed where the car is parked, usually same day on the common makes.

Auction cars and trade-ins often show up with a single key, and some arrive with none. Retail buyers ask how many keys come with the car, and a car with no key sits wherever the transport driver left it.

We work for independent used car dealers, wholesalers, auction buyers and body shops across the county. The van pulls onto the lot, we read the VIN, cut the blade from the key code and program the key at the car, so nothing rides a flatbed to a franchise service drive.

Every key is billed at the public table price on the pricing page, plus $60 when the car has no working key. Lots that send steady work can ask about a volume rate card by phone.

The job happens where the car is parked.

How it works for you

We come to the lot

No flatbed at $125 to $200 for a car that has no key. We park beside the car in its row, and it stays put until your porter moves it.

All keys lost, from the VIN

A car that came in with nothing gets its key code pulled from the VIN and its immobilizer programmed from scratch, for the table price plus $60. The missing key is then erased, so one sitting in a previous owner's drawer no longer starts the car.

Usually same day on common makes

Keys for the Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia models common on used lots are usually on the van, so those cars usually get their key the day you call.

A second key before front line

Have the spare made while the car is still in recon, and it goes out front ready to hand over with two keys. The buyer has one less question at delivery, and your sales desk has one less callback.

Body shops and wholesalers too

A body shop holding a customer's car with no key, or a wholesaler who needs a car started to load it, gets the same visit at the same table price and the same one-year warranty.

How a lot visit runs

Text or call with the stock number, VIN and key situation for each car. We match every VIN to its key and table price, and you have the total before the van leaves. On the lot we work car by car, test each key in the ignition or push-start and on the door locks, and hand the keys back tagged by stock number.

Proof of ownership comes first on any car with no working key. For a lot, that means the paperwork that shows the business owns or is responsible for the car, and the ID of whoever signs; tell us what you hold and we confirm on the call whether it works.

The franchise route on a no-key car

A car with no key reaches the franchise dealer for its make on a flatbed, $125 to $200, before anyone looks at it. The key can take one to three days to order, and programming lands on the bill as its own labor line at $100 to $180.

Take a Honda with a push-to-start fob. The dealer typically quotes about $480 for that key before the tow. At your lot it starts at the $239 table price plus $60, so from $299, with no tow and no second trip to collect the car.

Cars we send back to their own dealer

Two groups get checked by VIN before we drive: most Mercedes-Benz cars built from 2014 onward and many G-series BMW models from about 2016 onward take keys issued only through their own dealers. We tell you which of your cars fall there, so they go to the right place the first time.

Questions people ask

Do car lots get a different rate?

Every car is billed at the public table price, the same figure any driver sees, and the $60 no-key add is the same too. A rate card for steady volume is a phone conversation rather than a printed number. Call (619) 340-1518 with a rough monthly count and the makes you buy most.

Can you make a key when the car came with none?

Yes. We pull the key code from the VIN, cut the blade on the van and program the immobilizer from scratch, at that key's table price plus $60. Have ready the paperwork that shows the business owns or is responsible for the car, along with ID for the signer. Once the new key starts the car, the lost one is wiped from its memory at no charge.

How soon can you get to the lot?

The van typically pulls in 45 to 90 minutes after you call, any day from 7 AM to 9 PM. With the common makes, the key is often on the van, so those cars are usually done the same day you call. If a key has to be ordered, you hear that with the quote so the car can be scheduled around it.

What does the warranty cover on keys for a lot?

The same as any driver gets: a full year on each key we make, covering the key itself, its remote and the programming. For a fob your lot bought elsewhere, coverage is on the programming alone. The warranty page spells out what counts as a claim, and what does not, such as a key lost again.
