Car Key Replacement in National City

A new key made at your car anywhere in National City costs $125 to $399 for most models, and it skips the tow to the Mile of Cars. Every price includes the drive.

National City is where the South Bay goes to buy cars, so the Mile of Cars is the default answer when a key goes missing, whether you live off Plaza Boulevard or ten minutes south in Chula Vista.

Living near the dealers does not make the dealer key cost less. With no working key the car still rides a flatbed to the service lane, $125 to $200 even for a short haul, and a fob the parts counter has to order can leave the car parked there for up to three days.

We bring the key to the car instead. We cut the blade from the key code, pair the chip or smart key to the immobilizer the way the dealer's own tech would, and take one payment, card or cash, once the engine starts. Every key we make is warrantied for a full year.

The job happens where the car is parked.

Car key prices in National City

National City pays the same price as every other city in the county, with the drive included. The dealer column is a typical San Diego dealership quote for the same key, before tax.

Driveways, apartment lots and Plaza Bonita

On the east side, calls come from Lincoln Acres, the streets off Paradise Valley Road and the Sweetwater side of town, where driveways often hold two or three cars and one of them is down to its last key. On the Westside and in Old Town the work is in apartment carports and street spots a few blocks from the 5.

Parking lots make up the rest: Plaza Bonita where the 805 meets the 54, the Walmart on Highland Avenue, the blocks around Paradise Valley Hospital on East Fourth Street, and the Southwestern College Higher Education Center downtown. Tell us the row or the nearest store entrance and we park beside the car.

The Mile of Cars, minus the tow

The franchise stores lining National City Boulevard are the dealer row for the whole South Bay. Their service lanes price a key the way every dealer does: the part at retail, programming as its own charge, and the car sitting on their lot while they work.

A Nissan Intelligent Key there typically costs about $520, against $249 from us. A Toyota smart key is around $500 at the dealer and $249 here, and a Hyundai smart key $470 against $239. Our figures cover the programming and the trip to your address, and the total is $60 higher only when there is no working key left to copy.

Navy schedules and South Bay commutes

Naval Base San Diego sits on the city line along Harbor Drive, and plenty of sailors and base contractors live a few minutes from the gate. Their calls follow the duty schedule: a car that sat through a deployment with a dead fob, a spare needed before the ship leaves, or a key lost on base while the car waits at home.

Everyone else commutes on the 5, the 805 and the 54 in Corollas, Civics, Altimas, Sentras, Elantras and F-150s, and those are the keys the van is loaded for. A Ford chip key is $129 and a Nissan remote key $175, cut and programmed in a single stop.

National City questions

Should I get a quote from the Mile of Cars before I call you?

It helps if you have the time. Ask the service desk for the full price of the key with programming, and whether the car must be towed in. Then call us with the year and model and we price the same key. On most Toyota, Honda and Nissan keys ours comes to about half. You can also send it through beat my dealer quote.

I'm stationed at Naval Base San Diego. Where can we meet?

Off base is the simple option: your home, an apartment lot near Harbor Drive, or wherever the car is parked in town. Whether a civilian service van gets through the gate is the base's call, not ours, so we promise nothing about reaching a car inside. If the car is on base and no key works, call us first and we will talk through what is realistic.

My Honda fob died in the Plaza Bonita parking lot. What are my options?

Try the fob first: with your foot on the brake, touch the H logo on the fob to the push-start button and press it, which starts most Hondas on a dead fob battery. If the fob is damaged or gone, we program a new Honda smart key right in the lot for $239, against about $480 at the dealer.

Is Lincoln Acres inside your service area even though it is county land?

Yes. Lincoln Acres is an unincorporated pocket surrounded by National City, and it shares the 91950 ZIP code, our route and our prices. Bonita and the homes along Paradise Valley Road get the same prices too. No address in the county carries a trip fee, so where you park never changes the bill.

A key snapped off in my door lock. Can you pull it out?

Yes, without drilling the lock. Extraction runs $89 to $149 depending on where the piece is stuck and how deep it broke off. If you also need a new key, that is priced separately by make and key type, and we can cut it from the broken halves or by code while we are there, so it all happens in one visit.

My used car came with only one key. Should I add a second?

Yes, and the first week of ownership is the time to do it. A spare copied from a working key starts at $125 for a chip key, while losing the only one means a VIN lookup and $60 more on the bill. Plenty of used cars leave the lot with a single key, so it pays to fix that early.
