Mazda6 Key Replacement in San Diego

A 2014 to 2021 Mazda6 smart key is $249 beside your car, close to half what a Mazda dealer charges. Flip keys for 2009 to 2013 sedans are $175.

The Mazda6 ran from the 2003 to the 2021 model year in the US, across three generations, and the key moved along roughly in that order: plain chip key, flip key, then push-button fob.

The US line ended with the 2021 sedan, but its keys are still Mazda parts sold at Mazda prices: about $480 for a smart key and $320 for a flip key once a dealer adds programming labor. We supply the same chip types, program at the car and warrant each key for a year. A sedan with no key left follows our lost car keys process.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
2003 to 2008: Transponder chip keyFirst generation: sedan, hatchback and wagon. Many take a plain chip key on the MAZ24 blade with the lock remote on the ring; some later cars have the four-button flip key, which is $175. The VIN tells us which you have. $245 $135 $110
2009 to 2013: Remote head key (Most trims shipped with the flip key; keyless entry and start cars take the $249 fob)Second generation, sedan only. The flip key carries lock, unlock, trunk and panic buttons, with the 4D63 chip and edge-cut MAZ24 blade folded into the fob. A button-less chip key makes a $135 spare. $320 $175 $145
2014 to 2021: Smart key for push-to-start (Push-button start across the lineup by most listings; hands-free unlocking on higher trims)Third generation, the 2018 update with the turbo engine included. Its fob belongs to the family introduced on the 2013 CX-5. Many 2016 and newer cars impose a timed security lockout before a fob is accepted, which lengthens the stop. $480 $249 $231

Lost every Mazda6 key?

Every Mazda6 generation can be keyed with nothing to copy. We pull the code by VIN, cut either a MAZ24 blade or the insert hidden in the fob, and program at the car: $195 for a first-generation chip key, $235 for a 2009 to 2013 flip key and $309 for a 2014 or newer smart key.

Without a key, a Mazda6 reaches a dealer only by flatbed, a $125 to $200 ride, and when the key is back-ordered the sedan can sit at the dealership one to three days more. We work where it sits, check your paperwork (title or registration, plus a photo ID), and erase the missing key from the immobilizer's list after the new one starts the engine, at no charge.

Mazda Mazda6 key questions

What key does a 2011 Mazda6 take?

Usually the four-button flip key, $175 at the car against about $320 at a Mazda dealer. A car built with keyless entry and start needs the $249 smart key. If you turn a blade in the ignition to start the engine, you have the flip key, and a VIN check removes any guesswork before we drive.

My 2006 Mazda6 came with a chip key and its own lock remote. What does each cost?

The chip key costs $135, cut by code and programmed to the immobilizer right there, where a dealer asks about $245. Many first-generation Mazda6 sedans came with that split setup. If your remote still exists, re-pairing it is $79 to $119; if that is missing as well, ask for a new-remote quote on the same call.

Is a Mazda6 smart key the same part as a Mazda3 fob?

Sometimes the same family, not always the same part. The 2014 and newer Mazda6 shares its fob family with the 2014 to 2018 Mazda3, but button layout and part numbers can still differ between the two, so the fob is chosen by your Mazda6 VIN rather than by a Mazda3 listing. Either way the price is $249 programmed.

Will a plain metal copy of my 2005 Mazda6 key start the car?

No. Metal alone opens the door, yet the immobilizer looks for the programmed chip molded into the key's head, and without it the engine will not run. A programmed chip key from us is $135, cut and tested in the ignition before we leave, with a one-year warranty.

My Mazda6 came with only one key when I bought it. Is a spare worth it?

Yes, and it costs least now. A spare is priced as a copy while one key works: $135, $175 or $249 depending on the year. If the last key goes missing before you get a spare, each price gains $60, plus the ownership paperwork and a car that waits where it stopped until we arrive.
