Hyundai Tucson Key Replacement in San Diego

A push-button Tucson smart key is $239 where you park it, and a turn-key Tucson flip key is $169. Hyundai dealers ask about $470 and $310.

The Tucson has had four generations in the US since the 2005 launch, and each one changed the key. The trim counts as much as the year: from 2016 on, a Limited and an SE built side by side take different keys.

Turn-key Tucsons from about 2011 to 2021 need one extra check. A large share left the plant without an immobilizer; their flip key holds no chip, and cutting the blade to code and syncing the remote is the whole job. Trims with a start button have an immobilizer on every car. One look at the VIN on the phone tells us which you have.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
2005 to 2009: Transponder chip keyThe first Tucson. A plain plastic head on an edge-toothed blade, and many of these carry a transponder that we program at the car. It is $129 with a key to copy. $240 $129 $111
2010 to 2015: Remote head keyThe second generation, mostly turn-key. From 2011 on many left the line lacking an immobilizer, so their flip key has no chip; a 2010 may have one. Either way, the blade is cut from factory code data and the remote synced. $310 $169 $141
2016 to 2021: Smart key for push-to-start (Sport and Limited from 2016, and the Ultimate from 2019 by most listings; the SE and Eco turn a flip key)The third generation. Inside the fob sits an emergency blade that we cut as well. Flip-key SE and Eco cars from these years often lack an immobilizer. $470 $239 $231
2022 to 2026: Smart key for push-to-start (SEL and higher, per most listings, with the SE on a folding key)The fourth generation. SE cars assembled before November 2021 might lack an immobilizer; later SEs have one, so their flip key gets a chip programmed. The build month is printed on the door jamb sticker. $470 $239 $231

Lost every Tucson key?

A Tucson with no key left is still fixed where it sits. For a push-button Sport, Limited, Ultimate or newer SEL, we register a new smart key to the car and cut its emergency blade, $299 including the $60 lost-key charge.

A turn-key SE or Eco needs a code-cut blade and a synced remote, with the chip programmed if the car has one, $229. A 2005 to 2009 chip key comes to $189. Bring the registration or title; the ID has to show the same name.

Compare the dealer route. The Tucson gets towed to the service lane for $125 to $200, the fob is a parts line, programming is its own $100 to $180 labor charge, and a back-ordered fob pushes the job out one to three days. Our lost keys guide lists what to have ready before you call.

Hyundai Tucson key questions

Does a 2017 Tucson SE key have a chip?

Maybe not. The SE and Eco turned a key in these years, and a large number of turn-key Tucsons built between roughly 2011 and 2021 lack an immobilizer. On those, the flip key carries no chip, so we cut and pair it for $169. Your VIN answers the question before we quote, so the price you hear already fits your car.

Which Tucson trims came with push-button start?

From 2016 the Sport and Limited had it, with the Ultimate joining in 2019 by most listings, while the SE and Eco kept a turned key. On the 2022 and newer Tucson, the SEL and higher trims generally have it. If you press a button to start yours, it is a smart key car. The Tucson fob costs $239 here and about $470 from a Hyundai dealer.

Will my 2022 Tucson flip key need programming?

It comes down to the build date, not the model year. Hyundai says its vehicles built from November 2021 forward carry an immobilizer, so a later 2022 SE flip key holds a chip we program at the car, while an earlier build may not. The door jamb sticker shows the build month. The price is $169 either way.

Do you still make keys for a 2007 Tucson?

Yes. The first Tucson uses a plain-head key, many with a transponder chip that we program after cutting the blade. It is $129 with a working key and $189 without one. If the old key has started sticking in the ignition, tell us when you call, because a worn cylinder may need attention too, and a new cylinder is $179 to $349.

Is a Tucson key high-security like the Santa Fe's?

We price it differently. The HY18R milled-track blade on our laser-cut row is a Santa Fe part; a Tucson is quoted on the flip key or smart key row. The key code linked to your VIN tells us the exact blade, emergency blade included, and a milled or an edge-cut profile is cut at the curb either way.
