Volkswagen Tiguan Key Replacement in San Diego

Any 2018 or newer Tiguan key is $309, programmed where the SUV is parked; a Volkswagen service department usually wants about $600. First-generation 2009 to 2017 flip keys are $209.

Most Tiguan keys fall into two groups. The 2009 to 2017 SUV, plus the 2018 Tiguan Limited, is pre-MQB with a flip key; the longer 2018 and newer Tiguan is MQB, and its keys generally pass through an online data calculation.

A third generation is replacing the MQB SUV, so a 2025 or newer Tiguan is looked up by VIN before a price is given, like any brand-new VW dashboard. Tiguan keys we bring are OEM parts or OEM-grade equivalents, set up in the spot where the SUV is parked, and warranted for a year with the programming included. Pairing a fob bought elsewhere is covered under key fob programming.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
2009 to 2017: European smart or remote keyFirst-generation Tiguan. Most came with a flip key, and push-button start with keyless entry showed up on upper trims. Treated as an Immo 4 car, it usually needs no online step. The 2018 Tiguan Limited is this same SUV and takes this $209 key. $380 $209 $171
2018 to 2024: European smart or remote keySecond-generation Tiguan on MQB, longer and offered with a third row. Depending on trim, the key is either a flip key or a proximity fob hiding a blade. Both are the $309 key and usually go through an online data step. $600 $309 $291
2025 to 2026: European smart or remote keyThe newest Tiguans, including the third generation. Newer VW dashboards do not all have an aftermarket key route, least of all with every key lost, so we run the VIN and tell you on the call whether yours is done at the SUV. $600 $309 $291

Lost every Tiguan key?

For a 2009 to 2017 Tiguan or a 2018 Tiguan Limited, losing every key is a single visit: data read from the SUV, blade cut to the locks, new flip key programmed and tested. That comes to $269, the $209 key plus $60, and your photo ID has to carry the same name as the Tiguan's registration or title.

From 2018 on, the same job is $369, the $309 key plus $60, and runs longer. The key data normally has to come from the instrument cluster, which can mean sliding the cluster part way out, and an online calculation usually follows. On a 2025 or newer Tiguan with no key left, the answer may be the dealer, and you learn that before we drive.

Volkswagen Tiguan key questions

What will a key for a 2018 to 2024 Tiguan run?

$309 at your car with one working key, $369 with none. A Volkswagen dealer typically quotes about $600 for the same MQB key before tax, and a Tiguan that will not start gets there behind a tow truck, usually for $125 to $200. We give the price on the phone, and you pay after the new key starts the Tiguan.

Which key does a 2018 Tiguan take?

It depends on the badge. The 2018 Tiguan Limited is the first-generation body and takes the $209 pre-MQB flip key. The regular 2018 Tiguan is the new, longer MQB model and takes the $309 key. If the badge is gone, the VIN answers it during the call, and the dealer gap is roughly $170 to $290 either way.

Is a 2025 Tiguan key something you can make?

Possibly, and we check the VIN first. A 2025 or newer Tiguan may be the new third generation, and not every newer VW dashboard has an aftermarket route yet, especially when every key is lost. With the VIN on the phone, we can say whether it is a $309 job at the SUV or one for the dealer, before anyone drives.

Tiguan keyless access stopped working, yet the SUV still starts. Is the fob dead?

Usually just its battery. As the coin cell weakens, keyless access tends to fail first, while the fob, held at the backup spot the owner's manual shows, usually still starts the Tiguan. Fit a new cell. If the new cell makes no difference, pairing the fob to the SUV again costs $79 to $119.

How do I tell a first-generation Tiguan key from an MQB Tiguan key?

Go by the year and the body rather than the key. Both fold and hide a milled blade, and the buttons look similar. The 2018 and newer MQB key talks to a newer immobilizer, which is why it costs $309 against $209 for the 2009 to 2017 SUV, and why the two will not swap.
