Lexus ES Key Replacement in San Diego

An ES smart key runs $289 with the programming done beside the car; a Lexus dealer typically quotes about $580. ES 300 chip keys from 1998 to 2003 start at $149.

The ES has worn three kinds of key from 1998 on: a chip key on the ES 300, a milled-blade key on the ES 330, then smart fobs from the 2007 ES 350 onward, with the hybrid ES 300h joining in 2013.

The quote hangs on two things: the model year, and whether starting the car means turning a key or pressing a button. We code-cut the blade, program the key or fob right next to the car, then test the locks, trunk release and start before leaving. Each ES key is new, OEM or OEM-grade, warranted for a year, and about half the dealer figure; why we cost less breaks down the gap.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
1998 to 2003: Transponder chip keyES 300 keys, usually with the 4C chip in the head, cut by code on site. A blade duplicated at a key kiosk will turn in the ignition, but without the chip the ES 300 never starts. $290 $149 $141
2004 to 2006: High-security laser-cut keyThe ES 330, on a milled blade carrying the 4D68 chip. That groove needs a milling cutter, which is why a hardware store key counter usually hands these back. $330 $169 $161
2007 to 2012: Smart key for push-to-startThe ES 350 brought the smart key to the ES. The fob carries a hidden emergency blade we cut by code. If your ES from these years has a key slot, mention it on the call, since that changes the key. $580 $289 $291
2013 to 2018: Smart key for push-to-startES 350 and the first ES 300h hybrid. The hybrid costs the same $289 as the gas car, and the VIN settles which fob part fits, since Lexus fobs changed from one generation to the next. $580 $289 $291
2019 to 2026: Smart key for push-to-startES 350, ES 300h and, from 2021, the ES 250 AWD. For 2019 to 2021 cars a Lexus bulletin says an erased key can never be registered again. A newly redesigned ES gets a VIN check first. $580 $289 $291

Lost every ES key?

An ES with no key left gets its immobilizer reset, and the replacement is enrolled from scratch, with its blade cut to the code tied to your VIN. Pricing is the spare row plus $60: $209 for a 1998 to 2003 ES 300, $229 for an ES 330 and $349 for any ES with a smart key.

The 2019 to 2021 cars deserve an extra search before you call. Under that Lexus bulletin, a key wiped during the reset is locked out of registration on any car afterward, so one that turns up in a jacket a week later is scrap. Bring the registration or title as well, with a license in the same name.

Lexus ES key questions

What will a 2013 to 2018 ES 350 smart key run me?

$289 when one working key is at the car, $349 when none is. The Lexus dealer figure runs near $580 before tax, and an ES with no key has to be towed to the service drive, usually $125 to $200. The price is settled by phone first, and payment happens after the new fob starts the ES.

My 2005 ES 330 key sticks in the ignition. Which part is worn?

Start with the key. Milled blades wear along the groove, and a key cut by code to factory depths takes that wear out of the picture. That key, with the 4D68 chip, is $169. If a fresh key still catches, the cylinder is worn: ignition repair is $179 to $349 with us, and dealers usually ask $350 to $700.

My ES shows a key-not-detected warning. Do I need a new fob?

Probably not yet. A low coin cell is the first suspect, and Lexus lets you start with a weak fob by touching its emblem side to the start button. Replace the cell first. If the warning stays, re-pairing your existing fob costs $79 to $119; a brand-new ES fob is $289.

My ES key was in a stolen purse. Can you stop it from starting the car?

Yes. We make you a new key and delete the stolen one from the car's key memory, free of charge, which leaves it unable to start the engine. With one key still in hand, that is a $289 smart key visit rather than an all-keys-lost job. On 2019 to 2021 cars that deleted key is finished for good, since no car will accept it again.

How do I tell an ES 300 key from an ES 330 key?

Check the trunk-lid badge and the year. An ES 300 from 1998 to 2003 takes the 4C chip key at $149, and an ES 330 from 2004 to 2006 takes the 4D68 milled-blade key at $169. A Lexus parts counter typically prices those two at about $290 and $330. An ES from 1990 to 1997 gets quoted once you text us its VIN.
