Ram 2500 and 3500 Key Replacement in San Diego

A 2019 or newer Ram 2500 or 3500 smart key costs $249 at the truck, where a Ram dealer asks about $460. A 2013 to 2018 heavy-duty fobik is $189.

Heavy-duty Rams follow the half-ton's key history with two differences: no Classic version clouds the recent years, and the 2019 and newer fob is its own part, usually listed under FCC ID GQ4-76T, rather than the 1500's.

A 2500 or 3500 is often hitched to something when its key goes missing: a fifth-wheel at a campground in Santee, a horse trailer, a flatbed loaded for a job. The truck does not have to move, only give the van room to park alongside. Keys arrive OEM or OEM-grade, each holding the chip Ram lists for your VIN, and the lost-keys visit runs the same on a diesel as on a gas truck.

2003 to 2006: Transponder chip keyThird-generation heavy-duty Dodge Ram: a metal ignition key, with the remote riding separately on the ring. Whether a given truck has the Sentry Key chip, and which one, gets settled by VIN before we quote $145. $260 $145 $115
2007 to 2012: Remote head keyMost heavy-duty trucks from these years carry the remote on the key head itself. A 2012 gets decoded before quoting. For a spare that just runs the engine, the chip-only key without buttons is $145. $350 $189 $161
2013 to 2018: Remote head keyFobik years on the heavy-duty trucks too. The fob has no fixed blade, slots into the dash and twists, and we charge it at the remote head key rate, $189. The backup blade stored inside gets matched to your door on the same visit. $350 $189 $161
2019 to 2026: Smart key for push-to-startPush-button smart key listed under FCC ID GQ4-76T, a separate part from the 1500 fob even though photos look alike. Key programming on most of these trucks has to clear the security gateway, which we handle at the truck. $460 $249 $211

Lost every 2500 and 3500 key?

A 2500 or 3500 with every key gone still gets fixed where it stands, trailer attached if need be. We compare your title or registration with your license, cut the blade using the VIN's code, read the security PIN (in most cases it comes straight from the truck), and program the new key or fob through the OBD connector.

On most 2019 or newer trucks the security gateway is part of that.

With no key to copy, the key price rises by $60. A dealer would need the trailer unhitched and the truck towed in, $125 to $200 on a typical day. The lost key or fob is wiped from the truck's memory before we drive away.

Ram 2500 and 3500 key questions

Do the 2500 and 3500 share the same smart key?

Generally, yes. From 2019 on, both trucks use the heavy-duty smart key usually listed under FCC ID GQ4-76T, which is why they share this page. The 1500 is the one that differs. Either heavy-duty truck is $249 at the truck, where a dealer usually asks around $460, and we still order by VIN so the button count matches.

Does a Cummins diesel take a different key than a gas 2500?

Not because of the engine. The key follows the truck's year, body and options, such as remote start, rather than what is under the hood, so a Cummins and a gas truck of the same year and trim normally take the same key. We still decode the VIN before ordering, and either engine pays the same: $189 for a fobik, $249 for a smart key.

Can you program a key with the trailer still hooked up?

Yes. The programmer plugs into a connector in the cab, so the rig stays where it is, hitched or not. We only need room to park the van nearby and a truck battery with enough charge, because a weak battery can interrupt programming. If the truck has been parked for weeks at a storage lot, mention it on the phone.

How does a heavy-duty fobik compare with the dealer's price?

$189 at the truck, where a Ram service counter typically asks about $350. The dealer number bundles programming, sometimes itemized at $100 to $180, and it assumes the truck shows up running; with no key, add a tow. A fobik that is out of stock adds one to three days.

Can I buy a GQ4-76T fob myself and have you pair it?

Yes, if it is brand new and no other truck has ever learned it. Compare the listing's FCC ID and part number with what your truck needs before buying, or text us a photo first. Our fee to pair a fob you bring is $79 to $119, done at the truck. A used heavy-duty fob pulled from a wreck will usually refuse a second truck.
