Nissan Rogue Key Replacement in San Diego

Replacing a Rogue Intelligent Key costs $249 with programming done in your parking spot, about half of a typical $520 Nissan dealer bill. First-generation turn keys start at $135.

Three Rogue bodies, three key stories. The 2008 to 2013 Rogue usually has a turn key, the 2014 to 2020 body split by trim, and the 2021 and newer Rogue went to a newer fob family.

All of them answer to NATS. Before registration opens, the car typically asks for a security PIN, the shorter code on the older bodies and often the 20-digit code on the newest, and we derive it at the car on most years. Registration generally rewrites the Rogue's key list too, so a key or fob that stays home during the visit will likely stop working.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
2008 to 2013: Transponder chip key (Turn key on most; any with push-button start use the $249 Intelligent Key)An NSN14 blade whose head holds the chip, most often a Philips 46. If the lock buttons are part of the key head, it is our $175 remote head key. The Rogue Select sold for 2014 and 2015 kept this older body. $260 $135 $125
2014 to 2020: Smart key for push-to-start (SV and SL from 2014; the 2014 S kept a turn key, so check any S for a start button)The second-generation Rogue. Each fob hides a door blade we cut by code. Before heading out we ask about aftermarket remote starters, because a Nissan bulletin for the 2014 model warns one can block a fob from registering. $520 $249 $271
2021 to 2025: Smart key for push-to-start (Push-button start on most trims)The third-generation Rogue. These fobs are generally the AES type, and the car usually wants the 20-digit PIN. Factory remote start means a five-button fob; the KR5TXN number printed on the back pins down the exact part. $520 $249 $271

Lost every Rogue key?

A Rogue with no working key needs four things done where it is parked: the VIN decoded into a key code, a blade cut to match, the NATS PIN, and registration of the new key or fob.

Add the $60 lost-keys charge and the totals are $309 for an Intelligent Key, $195 for a chip key and $235 for a turn key with buttons. We match the title or registration to your photo ID before any cutting.

Mention any aftermarket remote starter on the call, since it can get in the way of registering a fob from scratch. Once the new key is in, most Rogues forget the missing one for good, and we charge nothing for that step.

Nissan Rogue key questions

How can I tell which Rogue key I need if the year does not settle it?

Look at the dash, not the calendar. A key slot in the column means a turn key: $135, or $175 if the lock buttons are built into its head. A start button means an Intelligent Key at $249. This check matters most on 2014 to 2020 Rogues, where the S, SV and SL did not all match. Texting us the VIN works too.

Does an aftermarket remote starter change anything for a new Rogue fob?

It can, so tell us about it on the call. Nissan issued a bulletin on the 2014 Rogue warning that an add-on remote start unit may stop a new fob from being accepted. We ask the same question on every Rogue, not only 2014 cars, so the plan is set before we reach you rather than discovered in your parking space.

Will the fob from my 2018 Rogue work on a 2022 Rogue?

Usually not. The 2021 redesign moved to another fob part, and a fob already registered to one Rogue generally will not register to a second one anyway. Read the FCC IDs off both and send them over before spending anything. A new, never-registered fob that matches your car costs $79 to $119 to program.

What will a lost Rogue Intelligent Key cost with no spare at home?

$309 at the car, meaning the $249 fob plus $60 for building the first key from the VIN. Included: the emergency blade cut to code, the security PIN, and pairing the fob to the immobilizer. A Nissan dealer quotes about $520 for the programmed fob, and a keyless Rogue gets there only behind a wrecker, billed at $125 to $200.

Can a Rogue hold more than two fobs?

Yes, generally up to four. The catch is attendance: most Rogues rebuild their key memory from whichever fobs sit inside during programming. Bring your second fob and any spare from the junk drawer. A third fob is the same $249, and the originals stay live as long as they are in the cabin that day.
