Infiniti Q50 Key Replacement in San Diego

A Q50 Intelligent Key costs $279 programmed beside the car, near half of the $560 an Infiniti dealer tends to quote. Starting from zero keys, the total is $339.

Every Q50 from the 2014 launch on starts with a button and an Intelligent Key, so there is one key type to price. The real work is matching the fob part to your year, because Infiniti changed it during the car's run.

Under the Infiniti badge sits Nissan's immobilizer family. The car usually keeps key registration locked until it receives a security PIN, which our programmer produces curbside for most model years, and it generally remembers only the fobs sitting inside while registration runs. Have each fob you want working in the cabin, and leave out only one you intend to retire.

2014 to 2015: Smart key for push-to-startLaunch years, with the 3.7-liter V6 and the Hybrid. A latch on the fob frees a slim blade for the driver's door, which we cut to your key code. This first fob is not the part a 2021 Q50 takes. $560 $279 $281
2016 to 2024: Smart key for push-to-startTurbocharged engines arrive for 2016, a 2.0-liter four and a 3.0-liter V6. Infiniti changed the fob part at least once after launch, so the VIN or FCC ID on your case decides which one we bring. Newer cars may want the 20-digit PIN. $560 $279 $281

Lost every Q50 key?

Losing every Q50 fob means building one from nothing: a key code read from the VIN, an emergency blade cut to it, the security PIN produced, and a new Intelligent Key registered while you watch.

It totals $339, the $279 fob plus $60, where a dealer job usually begins by towing the car in for $125 to $200. First we need proof the Q50 is yours, meaning a pink slip or current registration, with photo identification that matches it.

On most Q50s, registering the replacement shuts the lost fob out of the car at no extra cost. If that fob surfaces afterward, it can generally rejoin the list, though only with every other fob in the cabin during that session.

Infiniti Q50 key questions

What does a second Q50 fob cost if mine still works?

$279, which buys the fob, a blade cut to your door, the security code step and registration at your car. An Infiniti dealer generally lands near $560 for the same fob programmed, before tax, with programming billed as labor. Bring the working fob along: on most Q50s it has to sit in the car during registration or it will likely go dead to the car.

Can a Nissan fob be programmed to my Q50?

Generally not. The Q50 shares Nissan's immobilizer family, but its Intelligent Key is an Infiniti part with its own shell and buttons, and the car expects that part. A Nissan fob that looks close usually will not work in its place. If you bought a Q50 fob online, send us its FCC ID; a new, matching one is $79 to $119 for programming.

Will my seat and mirror memory follow a new Q50 fob?

Usually, after a short setup. On Q50s with memory seats, the owner's manual describes linking a stored driving position to each Intelligent Key. A new fob starts with no link, so once it is programmed you save your seat and mirror settings and tie them to that fob the way the manual lays out for your year.

My Q50 will not start from the fob in my pocket. What should I try first?

Try a new coin cell in the fob; a weak cell is the usual culprit, and it is a few dollars from any auto parts counter. Until then, the owner's manual for your year describes a backup method, on most Q50s touching the fob to the push-button switch while pressing it. If new power in the fob does not revive it, we check it at the car before quoting a replacement.

My 2021 Q50 fob looks just like the one from my 2014. Can they swap?

Do not count on it. Infiniti changed the Q50 fob part after launch, and a 2021 car does not take the 2014 fob, so two fobs that look alike can be different inside. The VIN, or the printed FCC ID on each case, settles the part before we leave for your address, so the fob we bring registers the first time.

Is the PIN the reason the dealer says my Q50 has to come in?

It is one reason, and usually not a real barrier. The car generally wants a security PIN before accepting a new fob, and on most Q50s our programmer produces it at the car inside the $279. The dealer runs the same procedure in a service bay after the car gets there, and that bay visit is what brings the tow and a $100 to $180 labor line.
