Dodge Charger Key Replacement in San Diego

A push-start Charger fob is $249 at your car, where a Dodge dealer asks about $460. A 2008 to 2010 Charger fobik is $189, against roughly $350.

The Charger came back as a four-door sedan for 2006 and has used three keys since: a bladed remote key, then a fobik you turn in a dash slot, then a push-start fob. Your model year points to the right one.

Whichever it is, the price covers the part, the emergency blade shaped to your door lock, programming at the car and the drive to you. We use Dodge parts or OEM-grade equivalents with the matching chip. The Grand Caravan, Journey and older Dodges are on the Dodge key page.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
2006 to 2007: Remote head keyA metal blade with the remote buttons molded into its head, turned in an ordinary ignition cylinder. The chip changed within these years, and we read the VIN to pick the right one. A button-free version of this key is $145. $350 $189 $161
2008 to 2010: Remote head keyThe fobik years: no fixed blade, and you slide the entire fob into the dash and rotate it. It is priced on the remote head row at $189, and the emergency blade stored inside gets cut for the door. $350 $189 $161
2011 to 2014: Smart key for push-to-start (Push-start trims; a 2011 to 2014 car that still takes a fob in a dash slot is priced as a fobik, $189)The 2011 redesign brought a start button to most Chargers. The fob stays put in your jacket, and a removable blade inside it is cut by code for the driver's door. $460 $249 $211
2015 to 2017: Smart key for push-to-start (SRT Hellcat: red and black fobs, each quoted by VIN)The 2015 facelift kept the push-start fob and added the supercharged Hellcat, which leaves the factory with a red fob for full output and a black fob that holds it back. Tell us which color is missing. $460 $249 $211
2018 to 2023: Smart key for push-to-startOn most of these cars a security gateway module keeps key programming off the diagnostic port. We work around it with a bypass cable at the module or a registered online security login, included in the $249. The gas sedan's run ended with 2023. $460 $249 $211

Lost every Charger key?

A Charger missing every key is still a job for the curb, not the flatbed. Your registration or title is compared with a photo ID first. Then we pull the car's PIN, usually from its modules, cut the spare blade to the factory code and program the new key at the OBD port.

Add $60 to the spare figure: $249 for a 2006 to 2010 remote key or fobik, $309 for a push-start car.

On a 2008 to 2010 car we test the wireless ignition node before blaming the fobik, and on most 2018 to 2023 cars the gateway step is already in the price. The key you lost is then wiped from the Charger's memory free of charge, and after that it is a dead piece of plastic to your Charger, whoever picks it up.

Dodge Charger key questions

How do I tell whether my Charger uses a fobik or push-button start?

Look at how the car starts. If you push the fob itself into the dash and twist it, you have a fobik, $189 at your car. If you press a start button and never take the fob out of your pocket, it is a smart key, $249. A 2006 or 2007 Charger with a metal blade on its key takes the $189 remote head key.

My 2009 Charger fobik goes into the dash but will not turn. Is the fob bad?

Not always, so we test before we sell. The fobik can fail, and so can the wireless ignition node it plugs into, which can wear out on its own. A new fob fixes the first problem for $189. The second is a node repair at $279 to $695, covered on the page for that fault. A fresh fobik alone would not have started the car.

Does a red Hellcat fob cost more than a black one?

It can, which is why we price each color by VIN before heading out. Dodge sells them as separate parts: the red fob lets the supercharged engine make its full output and the black fob caps it, so the car must be taught the correct one. Once the part number and the programming route for your Charger check out, we pair it where the car sits.

Will the security gateway on my 2019 Charger send me back to the dealer?

Usually not. On most 2018 and newer Chargers a gateway module shuts the diagnostic port out of key programming, and we get past it with a module cable or an online security account. The bypass is part of the $249 push-start price, the drive is included, and the new fob is tested before you pay anything.

What about the Charger generation that started in 2024?

We check that car by VIN before quoting it. The new-generation Charger, which launched as the electric Daytona, uses a different fob family from the 2011 to 2023 cars, so we confirm the part and whether it programs at the car first. If the dealer is faster or less money for your Charger, we tell you on that call.
